Gray wins AMP Scholarship
Tanemahuta Gray’s next production has come a step closer with his win of a $10,000 AMP People’s Choice Scholarship.
The Ngai Tahu choreographer wants to premiere Tiki Taane Mahuta in Christchurch next May.
He calls it a fusion of Maori martial arts, contemporary dance, hip hop and aerial theatre to the music of Tiki Taane, with multi-media effects by the designers of the World of Wearable Arts spectacular.
Jeff Ruscoe, AMP’s chief customer officer, says the scholarship aims to give everyday Kiwis the opportunity to turn their passion and dreams into a reality.
He says by using social media the company gives the public the casting vote on the award, and they have chosen a worthy recipient.
