Maori information for Maori landowners
Maori owners of land administered by the new Maori Trustee, Te Tumu Paeroa, can now find out what’s happening with new online information and notification service.
My Whenua gives owners a website specifically about their land with maps, photos, facts, meeting minutes and financials.
Maori Trustee Jamie Tuuta says it’s a way to generate greater engagement with owners, which will make it easier to keep in touch.
He says as Te Tumu Paeroa serves over 70,000 Maori land owners across 2000 trusts it will take some time to roll out, but there has been a positive response from owners to what’s up there so far.
"It’s a tool they can use. I use the analogy it almost becomes an online wharenui because you can enter this particular portal and find not only photos and information about the land and financial information but over time it provides an opportunity for owners to interact with one another on those things that are important to them," Mr Tuuta says.
