Harawira down two votes in recount

Mana leader Hone Harawira has gone backwards in his bid for Te Tai Tokerau, but it won’t stop his political activism.
A judicial recount shaved two votes off his final total, while Labour’s Kelvin Davis added two to increase his majority to 743.
Independent Clinton Dearlove picked up three votes and the Maori Party’s Te Hira Paenga added 14.
Judge Tom Broadmore says as well as setting out the official result, he will issue a further judgment to record matters coming to his attention during the recount which were of concern to the parties, but not affecting the result.
Interested parties may wish to pursue those concerns through other channels.
Mr Harawira maintains he asked for the recount because of long-standing concerns abut the way election officials treated Maori voters.
He told Radio Waatea this week that he has been a political activist the whole of his adult life, including his nine years in parliament.
