New minister keen to make his own mark
The new Minister for Maori Development may want changes in the restructuring of his ministry.
Te Puni Kokiri is undergoing significant change, as it takes on a more advisory role after shedding the task of administering Whanau Ora.
Regional staff have had to apply for a smaller number of jobs, and the new structure is due to launch early next month.
Te Ururoa Flavell says he’s not been close to the moves taken under his predecessor, and he will have to see how they fit in with his plans.
"I definitely want to stamp my own mark on how we move forward, that's the job, that's why I became minister, and therefore there are obviously going to be some discussions between myself and the CEO, I've got a statement of expectations that we are going to drive, it sets out the direction we want to go, and that will be pressty well the work plan for the next three years, so we may well need some alignment," he says.
Te Ururoa Flavell says the role of Minister of Maori Development has a wider scope than the former Maori Affairs title.
