Riley leads iwi economic push
Former Ngapuhi Runanga chief executive George Riley is Northland Inc’s new general manager for Maori economic development.
Northland Inc head David Wilson says his organisation is keen to see the Northland Maori economy grow, with a view to generating sustainable employment and increased prosperity.
The new role was co-designed with the Taitokerau Iwi Chief Executives Consortium.
Te Rarawa chief executive Kevin Robinson says over the past decade the consortium has focused on social sector initiatives, but it is now changing its focus to economic issues.
Mr Riley will work with the consortium to implement its He Tangata, He Whenua, He Oranga economic growth strategy.
That’s expected to fit in with a Northland regional growth study being prepared by Northland Inc, the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment, and the Ministry of Primary Industries.
