FOMA to attract more rangatahi
More than 300 of Maoridom’s business and agribusiness leaders are in Whanganui for the annual conference of the Federation of Maori Authorities, as well as leaders of the future.
As well as discussing issues like Maori agribusiness and reform of Maori land law, the hui will host manuhiri from Rapanui-Easter Island.
It will also pay tributes to ministers Tariana Turia and Pita Sharples, who have retired from parliament.
Chief executive Te Horipo Karaitiana says FOMA has tried to attract more younger people to the hui.
"One of the key strategic areas for FOMA is to get more youth involved in FOMA and across our network but also to start support and passing on knowledge from existing leaders to young emerging leaders," he says.
The hui runs until Sunday.
