Ruwhiu takes guild role


The Directors and Editors Guild of New Zealand has taken on Tui Ruwhiu as its new executive director.
He replaces Fiona Copland, who is moving back to independent producing to progress several film projects that are in advanced development.
Mr Ruwhiu started working in television in Tokyo working on stories for US entertainment shows, before setting up a line producing company bringing crews to New Zealand to shoot TV commercials.
His career alternated between New Zealand and Japan, and he has also developed links with Chinese filmmakers.
In recent years he has helped the Film Commission with its short film programme, written and directed a short, produced another and developed feature film projects.
He says it's exciting to work on behalf of New Zealand directors and editors at a time digital technolgy is bringing massive change to the screen industry.
