Rangatahi showing interest in election

The Maori Party’s Te Tai Hauauru candidate is buoyed by the number of young people showing an interest in the campaign.
Chris McKenzie says the election has attracted the attention of many rangatahi in the electorate, and the relative youth of the candidates is helping.
"Young people are registering to vote at an unprecedented level so we may see a larger rangatahi voice. If our youth don't hear a voice that represents them in parliament, I don't know why they would vote so I hope we can do more to repressent the range of views from our people," he says.
Mr McKenzie is confident of taking the seat being vacated by party co-leader Tariana Turia, but expects the result to be close.
