Te Tumu Paeroa in sweet deal

The new Maori Trustee Te Tumu Paeroa has bought a small stake in a company that is developing honey and bee based natural medicines and diet supplements.
While many companies have been researching the properties of manuka honey, HoneyLab has looked at potential applications for the compounds found in kanuka honey.
Te Tumu Paeroa commercial development manager Debbie Birch says about 10 percent of the 100,000 hectares managed by the Maori trustee is kanuka or manuka, so the partnership is a good fit.
She says it’s something landowners can get behind
Debbie Birch says HoneyLab has existing Maori shareholders including Ngati Rarua Atiawa Investment Trust and Fomana Capital, which is owned by Paul Morgan and Wayne Mulligan.
