Culture centre plan possible
Auckland mayor Len Brown says he's looking forward to consulting with Maori about how they will play a more visible role in the city.
The council will be going out to talk to communities about its long term plan delivered last week.
The mayor says Maori need to be represented as the first people of the world's largest Maori city.
"One of the things we will do in the first instance is give stronger support to marae development as hubs in our community, cultural and economic and social hubs, and then secondly how we might move to reflect that in a significant cultural centre and I think that will be a big discussion not just in the next nine months but in the next two or three years two or three years going forward," Mr Brown says.
The budget also includes possible support for a major Maori event as well such as Matariki.
