Waikato-Tainui teams up with incubator

Waikato-Tainui has formed a partnership with Hamilton business incubator SODA Inc to create employment opportunities and encourage Maori entrepreneurship.
Tribal executive chair Rahui Papa says the tribe’s Whakatupuranga 2050 strategic plan has an aspiration for tribal members to become business leaders.
He says the agreement means tribal members will be offered scholarships to learn about how start-ups work, including business model generation and pitching business ideas to potential investors and customers.
There will also be internship events to link Waikato-Tainui graduates with potential employers.
SODA Inc. business growth manager Vanessa Clark says the partnership emerged out of a successful pilot run earlier in the year where 10 tribal members with four projects took part in workshop series on start-ups and business design.
