Green support for kura

Greens co-leader Metiria Turei wants to see more support for kura and Maori medium education.
Ms Turei says growth in the sector seems to have stalled, and more reources may need to go into teacher development and finding why whanau don't want to engage.
She says the state system also needs more flexibilty to respond to the needs of Maori pupils.
Some principals and teachers are still unresponsive.
" But if we show direction from the top that education is a enourmous opportunity for us and will significantly increase like all the research shows, increase achievement levels for Maori kids then we need to find ways of building it in to every part of our education system, kura and the state system as well " she says.
