Koroneihana hui draws crowds
Turangawaewae Marae in Ngaruawahia is the place to be this week as iwi leaders, politicians and members of Wailkato-Tainui gather for the annual Koroneihana Hui.
Tainui executive chair Rahui Papa says the hui kicked off on the weekend with sports and kapa haka.
He says the hui is a way the tribe can look at where it has come from and plan for the year ahead.
"So the Kingitanga is the basis of Waikato-Tainui as a tribe. The Kingitanga has its overall korowai of manaakitanga and all those kind of things, whilst Waikato Tainui is more the political arm, more the social distribution arm. The kingitanga is the glue that binds Waikato-Tainui together, " Mr Papa says.
