Fund needed to boost Maori in ICT

The national Maori broadband working group, Nga Pu Waea, has welcomed the choice of Te Mangai Paho to administer a new $30 million fund for Maori information and communications technology.
Chair Antony Royal says there were few Maori in the ICT sector and the fund should help lift those numbers.
He says over the past three years Nga Pu Waea has shown the need for Maori communities to get connected to maximise the benefits of technology.
He says it will talk to the broadcast funding agency about the fund’s allocation strategy and the accountability provisions required.
