Three Maori films for Toronto

The chief executive of New Zealand Film Commission has high hopes for the three Maori-made films screening at next month’s Toronto Film Festival.
Maori language action epic The Dead Lands will premiere at the festival.
The Dark Horse and the Taika Waititi vampire comedy What We Do In The Shadows will also get exposure at what is considered a key festival for launching North American and European independent productions.
Dave Gibson says Maori films have affected the way people in the film community see New Zealand, and this is a great crop.
Dave Gibson says The Dark Horse, which is getting great word of mouth exposure in its current New Zealand run, has got a new international distributor who sees it as a major commercial prospect.
