Fund won’t stop claims

Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples says the creation of a $30 million fund to support Maori information and communications technology development won’t end spectrum claims.
Dr Sharples says he decided that Te Mangai Paho was the best agency to manage the fund, based on its 20 year track record distributing of funds for Maori broadcasting.
The agency will establish a new unit to handle the task.
He’s aware claimants are unhappy with the decision.
Pita Sharples says the denial by successive governments that spectrum is a taonga is not based on sound argument.
