The Maori Party’s Te Tai Tokerau candidate believes his election hoardings are being defaced for religious reasons.
The hoardings feature Te Hira Paenga standing in front of an altar inviting a ‘vote of faith’.
They sparked a complaint to the advertising standards body claiming they are objectionable because he is in a priest’s costume.
Mr Paenga says the complaint failed because he is an Anglican deacon, and he has pledged to take his Christian values into Parliament.
He says his other hoardings have been left alone.
