Warriors’ whanau reunited for doco

To mark the 20th anniversary of Once Were Warriors, actor and director Julian Arahanga, who played young Nig Heke, has tracked down his film family.
The resulting documentary will air on Maori Television mid-August.
He says the whanau reunion was highly emotional, as were interviews with other cast and crew members.
It reaffirmed for him the film was something special in New Zealand film history.
" The characters the stories the editing the way the whole thing was directed and put together, to be frank it's a bloody good film. It touched on things that nobody had touched on before and it was really really well executed " he says.
