Tainui gets go ahead for 50-year port plan
A board of inquiry has given interim approval to Tainui's bid to rezone land at Ruakura for an inland port.
A final decision is expected mid-September.
Over the next 50 years Tainui Group Holdings wants to build a logistics hub that could create up to 10,000 jobs, taking advantage of the site's proximity to the new Waikato Expressway and the main trunk railway line.
Its partner, Chedworth Properties, will build a residential suburb alongside it.
TGH Chief Executive Mike Pohio says their vision is to build a real community at Ruakura with a mix of high-quality work, live and play elements.
He says the six week inquiry was comprehensive, and the company listened to the concerns and suggestions raised and altered its plans to accommodate feedback wherever possible.
