Education Minister Hekia Parata says it's important to create a sense of excitement in the school system about science.
Ms Parata and Science and Innovation Minister Steven Joyce last week launched an action plan to encourage engagement with science and technology across all sectors of New Zealand.
A Nation of Curious Minds: He Whenua Hirihi i te Mahara strategy includes a plan to create new opportunities for teachers and students to engage with scientists and industry both inside and outside the classroom, right across the education system.
She says it includes new resources for schools and $160,000 a year for workships for primary and intermediate teachers who don't feel confident about teaching science.
