Parata, Bennett in Nats top ten
Education Minister Hekia Parata was one of the big winners in National’s list-making process, moving up 11 places on her 2011 ranking to number 7.
That puts her ahead of Social Development Minister Paula Bennett, who moved from 14 to 9.
Ms Bennett will contest the new Upper Harbour electorate in September’s election, while Ms Parata will again run in the Labour stronghold of Mana.
Jami-Lee Ross, who is expected to retain Botany, rose from 54 to 29.
There are 10 Maori on the list of 75, and 71 per cent of the total list and 14 of the top 20.
Tauranga MP Simon Bridges is at 18, Port Hills candidate Nuk Korako is at 50, and Whangarei candidate Shane Reti is 60.
The candidate who will replace Claudette Hauiti as the candidate for Kelson will be in slot 68, an indication of the signals Ms Hauiti was getting from the party about her prospects in light of revelations she had broken the rules around the use of her parliamentary credit card.
