Nati Power will pay marae bills
Te Runanganui o Ngati Porou has plugged in to Contact Energy with a plan aimed at getting its marae power bills paid.
For every customer who signs up and stays on the Nati Power plan until the end of the year, Contact will contribute towards the power bills of the 50 marae in the rohe.
If they get their bill online and pay on time by direct debit, internet or telephone banking, they will also get discount on their monthly power bill.
The runanga hopes to get 5000 customers from its population of around 72,000, which would bring in $250,000 a year.
Any left over funds would go towards marae insurance.
