Maori Party paati in the pa
The Maori Party will celebrate its 10th anniversary and launch its election campaign in Rotorua tomorrow.
The event at Te Papaiouru Marae in Ohinemutu on Saturday will include speeches from party founders and from New Zealander of the Year Dr Lance O'Sullivan, and special tributes to retiring leader Tariana Turia and Maori Affairs Minister Dr Pita Sharples.
President Naida Glavish says it has been a decade of achievement for Maori people, from the fight for access to justice over the Foreshore and Seabed Act to retaining the Maori seats in Parliament to starting Whanau Ora to gains in health, education, housing and employment.
She says the party hopes to continue as an influential force in all future governments irrespective of which of the major parties lead them.
