Te Pou Matakana seeking innovation
The chair of Te Pou Matakana wants to hear innovative ideas for better services for Maori communities.
The new Whanau Ora commissioning agency for the North Island is holding its inaugural conference in Auckland today and tomorrow as it explains to iwi and community providers how the new system will work.
Merepeka Raukawa Tait says the existing providers need to realise it’s a new way of allocating funds, now that Te Puni Kokiri has handed over its functions.
"We’ll be saying we want some innovative programmes, we want some innovative services that will make a difference to whanau so it means people will have to think differently, they will have to put their hats on differently, they are possibly doing to have to do more with the resources that we have got available to us, but we will be looking at a collective approach to making some impacts for whanau, so it will be different," she says.
