Te Pou Matakana a sign of the times
The person who gave the name for the new North Island Whanau Ora commissioning agency says the name is a sign of where the organisation wants to go.
Rawiri Waititi says for an organisation that is about strengthening the whanau, they went back to the pa for inspiration in coming up with the name Te Pou Matakana.
"Te Pou Matakana stands in a traditional context as the sentinel tower that used to look at information coming in and information going out of our pa. We saw Te Pou Matakana as that particular function in the pa is that they would look at every changing trends and markets to ensure our people are at the front foot at every opportunity and resourced," he says.
