UN tukutuku to hang at Te Papa
Fifty tukutuku panels destined for the walls of the United Nations Building in New York will go on display at Te Papa Tongarewa next week.
Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples says the panels tell stories of the people and the land from which they came.
They represent both customary and contemporary designs.
They will be installed early next year to hang permanently on New Zealand’s wall in the UN Headquarters, which is next to the entry of the General Assembly Hall.
Kahui Raranga The Art of Tukutuku: Aotearoa New Zealand’s Heart at the United Nations starts next Tuesday at Te Ihomatua Gallery on the top floor of Te Papa and runs until November 1.
