Greens keen on Takutai Moana Act reform
Green’s co-leader Metiria Turei is endorsing David Cunliffe’s plan to reopen discussion of foreshore and seabed legislation.
Mr Cunliffe raised the issue in response to a question at a Whangarei Marae last week, saying Labour had got it wrong and there was unfinished business relating to Maori customary interests.
Ms Turei says Labour needs to fix the current law rather than just apologise.
"The second foreshore legislation that the Maori Party put through was just as bad as the first. We have to go through and have another conversation with Maori about it, because it has been so long we have to know where iwi and hapu are at with the current law and what they think should be the next steps to be taken, and not act unilaterally again, which was the biggest mistake that was made last time," she says.
