Maori Heritage Council appointed
Three iwi heritage experts and former Te Puni Kokiri deputy secretary Kim Ngarimu are among the appointments to the new Maori Heritage Council.
The council assists Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga in developing and reflecting a bicultural view, advocates for Maori heritage, considers recommendations in relation to archaeological sites, and registers wahi tapu areas.
The other new members are Te Runanga a Rangitane O Wairau chair Richard Bradley, consultant Antoine Coffin who is a member of the Waikato River Technical Leaders Group among other roles, and Tuhoe Trust member Patrick McGarvey.
The eight-member council also includes four members of Heritage New Zealand: former Maori Affairs Ministry chief executive John Clarke, Maori Language Commission chair Erima Henare, Ngati Whatua Runanga chair Naida Glavish and architect Ian Athfield.
