Early childhood boost in Tamaki

Improving outcomes for Maori and Pasifika children is one of the main aims of a ground-breaking early learning project launched this morning in east Auckland.
The Tamaki Early Learning Project brings together the Ministry of Education, Comet Auckland, Tamaki Learning Champions, Tamaki Redevelopment Company and Manaiakalani Education Trust.
Tamaki Learning Champions chair Wilson Irons says just 83.9 percent of tamariki in Glen Innes, Panmure and Point England have attended early childhood education before they reach school, and the project aims to bring that up to 98 percent by 2016.
Project initiatives including opening a new early childhood education centre later this year in the first neighbourhood development of the Tamaki Regeneration Programme.
