Political korero turning out the voters

Internet Party leader Laila Harre says generating political discussion is the best way to get people out to vote.
The party will name its list candidates on Thursday, and it’s also working through the details of its joint election campaign with the Mana Party.
Ms Harre says its presence in the election has got the interest of a lot of people who had given up on politics, which was the reason for her involvement in the first place.
She wants to see an overall rise in the number of people participating.
"There’s been lots of research on why people don’t show up to vote and one of the big factors is that if there isn’t a political discussion at your dinner table or in your workplace or at the pub or in the sports club where you hang out, you’re much less likely to vote, so one of our jobs is to throw some stuff out there that get people talking about politics," Ms Harre says.
She says lowering the threshold for list-only parties to get into parliament would help with voter turn-out, because many people won’t vote if they believe their vote will be wasted.
