Whakarewarewa wastewater scheme to go
The Rotorua District Council has signed an agreement with CNI Iwi Holdings to end spraying of treated wastewater in the Whakarewarewa Forest by the end of 2019.
It comes after years of legal clashes.
CNI director and Te Komiti Nui O Ngati Whakaue Trust chair Anaru Te Amo says the new council leadership has shown a new approach to working alongside iwi land owners.
Mayor Steve Chadwick says the deed binds the parties to work together constructively in accordance with the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, to identify, develop and commission an alternative to the Land Treatment System.
