There’s a change at the top of the Tuwharetoa Settlement Trust, with environmental advocate and community leader Dylan Tahau taking over.
He says former chair Rakeipoho Taiaroa put in long hours getting the trust back on the right track after some tough times and wanted to step back. He remains on the board.
Mr Tahau has worked in the public sector, including being community engagement manager for Taupo District Council.
He is now environmental manager for the Tuwharetoa Maori Trust Board and also chairs Whanau Ora ki Tuwharetoa.
He says the priority is working through the mana whenua process relating to Kaingaroa forest lands, and negotiating with the crown on the tribe’s comprehensive Treaty of Waitangi claim.
