Home insulation boost getting results

ASB Community Trust chair Jenny Gill says working with iwi and providing jobs for young Maori have been added bonuses from its home insulation scheme.
The trust is working with public health organisations in Northland and Auckland to identify homes which need insulating.
Additional subsidies from local authorities, Top Energy and other agencies means the $1 million a year it puts in is multiplied, so that 15,000 homes have now been insulated.
"The programme that the trust has been working in partnership with local organisations has meant that many children who would have had chronic illnesses are now no longer unwell, are able to go to school, many elderly people are living in warm, comfortable homes. It's a programe that benefits so many people in the community," Ms Gill says.
She says there are probably another 10,000 houses in the north that need insulating.
