Internet Mana a bold challenge
Greens co-leader Metiria Turei believes the Mana-Internet Party alliance could attract voters who have otherwise felt locked out of the political system.
The team up between Te Tai Tokerau MP Hone Harawira and the new party has drawn fire from other parties who say it’s all about founder Kim Dotcom’s internet millions.
But Ms Turei says the main challenge she sees is how the parties will manage the expectations of two different constituencies.
"Both parties have a constitunecy of people who are otherwise locked out, and if those people can be brought into the voting system and have a real voice, that's good, as weird and strange as it could all turn out to be," she says.
Ms Turei says social and digital media are important tools for smaller parties.
