No applause for budget
Mana leader Hone Harawira says today’s budget shows how little the Maori Party has done for Maori by supporting a National Government.
Bill English’s sixth budget includes extra money for Whanau Ora navigators, $5 million to fund a Maori centre for research excellence, and more fundng for Maori social housing providers, with an emphasis on rural housing.
Mr Harawira says he’s sick of Government MPs pointing to extra money to tackle rheumatic fever and being their contribution for Maori.
" How dare you talk about saving Maori kids from a disease that doesnt exist in western nations anywhere else in the world is something we should be clapping about. Its not I wont clap about trying to bring Maori back up to zero.
Hone Harawira says the budget will do little to address Maori need in jobs, justice, education, housing, health and other indictors.
