Maori nursing students gather


More than 200 Maori nursing students are at Te Tii Marae in Waitangi for their annual four-day hui.
Lecturer Christine Sapwell from Northtec, which is co-hosting the hui along with the national council of Maori nurses Te Kaunihera o Nga Neehi Maori, says getting students to embrace their own culture is an important part of respecting the culture and identity of others.
That feeds in to better health outcomes.
The there of this year’s wananga is is rangatiratanga in nursing, with speakers including Associate Health Minister Tariana Turia.
