Garden plan boosts Rewa’s Village

Bay of Islands iwi Ngati Rehia is working with Northtec to create a sustainable rural development course at Rewa’s Village by the Kerikeri Basin.
Site custodian Kipa Munro says it fits with Ngati Rehia’s vision of involving the community in the site and turning it into a an authentic outdoor museum and environmental learning centre.
Horticulture tutor Helen Davis says the idea is to set up a traditional garden of both food and medicinal plants.
She says it will allow the students and the hapu to learn more about pre-European gardening, and will enhance the village’s role as a tourism attraction.
