Reject Dotcom money says Mair
Maori Party vice-president Ken Mair says a Mana hook-up with Kim Dotcom is all about money and will spark a backlash by supporters.
Mana leader Hone Harawira met with the Internet Party founder over the weekend about a potential alliance that could mean list MPs from both parties piggybacking into parliament if Hone Harawira retains Te Taitokerau.
Mr Dotcom is now set to speak to Mana’s annual meeting in Rotorua next weekend
Ken Mair says the German-born entrepreneur has no track record of working in the interests of Maori, so it’s hard to see how the relationship will appeal to key Mana members like Annette Sykes and Sue Bradford.
"I know that Annette and Sue and others within Mana have real substance and integrity on most issues – not all of course, that's why they are in the Mana Party and not the Maori party – that's why we have called on them to look at this proposed relationship with Dotcom and what's your rationale behind it and it's pretty clear to us it's all about money," he says.
The Mana conference will also hear from economist Gareth Morgan.
