Raukawa bets on digital education
Trusts linked to Te Wananga o Raukawa want to make Otaki and Porirua world leaders in digital education.
Te Reanga Ipurangi Otaki Education Trust yesterday unveiled a plan to put a Chromebook in the hands of every child at Te Kura a Iwi o Whakatupuranga Rua Mano.
Chairperson Rachael Selby says the aim is that by next year every one of the 1000-plus students in Otaki’s six schools will have one of the portable computers, with parents paying for the machines through a range of hire purchase options.
She says it’s a way to improve access to information so that children can integrate global and local knowledge.
A team from the kura and the wananga are developing te reo content for the new digital environment.
Schools in Porirua will also get Chromebooks through Te Mana o Kupe Trust, which is chaired by wananga lecturer Antony Royal.
Mr Royal says the Chromebooks mean that the traditional education will be replaced by 21st century pedagogy with continuous learning and greater participation by parents.
