Waka Huia wins kapa haka regionals
Tamaki Makaurau will have a strong presence at Te Matatini next year, with three of the country’s top kapa haka coming through the regional final this weekend.
The winner was current champion Te Waka Huia, which will be seeking a record sixth win in Otautahi.
Nga Tumanako, which emerged from Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Hoani Waititi, took second place, and Te Roopu Manutaki was third.
Head judge Kepa Stirling says he was impressed with the calibre of the teams performing, and also with the level of support from whanau and the public, so that the Aotea Centre was sold out for the competition.
