McDonald makes second run for Green vote
Victoria university political science student Jack Tautokai McDonald is swapping theory for practice this year by again running for the Greens in Te Tai Hauauru.
The 20-year-old, who also chairs the Paekakariki Community Board, stood in the last election lifting the Greens’ share of the party vote 3.4 per cent to 10.9 per cent.
He hopes to help lift the vote this time to 15 percent, which would bring him into parliament as a list MP.
He has Taranaki, Te Atiawa and Whakatohea whakapapa.
Mr McDonald says his campaign will focus on income and equality, unemployment and child poverty, as well as restoring the health of the waterways and honouring the Treaty of Waitangi.
The race to replace Tariana Turia as the MP for the western Maori seat is mainly seen as a contest between Labour’s Adrian Rurawhe and Chris McKenzie for the Maori Party.
