NUMA to be commissioning agency
The National Urban Maori Authority has been selected to establish the North Island Whanau Ora commissioning agency.
Whanau Ora Minister Tariana Turia says it will establish a new organisation, Te Pou Matakana, that will extend beyond the existing NUMA members to include of a full range of Whanau Ora stakeholders.
She says NUMA has years of experience supporting and uplifting families and it has developed working relationships with key organisations including iwi, social service providers and government agencies.
All three commissioning agencies have now been confirmed, with the iwi-based Te Putahitanga o Te Waipounamu for South Island whanau and Pasifika Futures for Pasifika families.
NUMA chair Willie Jackson says up to now there hasn’t been a model where urban Maori and iwi work in collaboration, but that needs to happen now.
The Iwi Leaders group and 3 other groups were bidders for the commissioning agency role.
