Police are hunting Lake Horowhenua guardian Philip Taueki after arresting him for burglary.
Mr Taueki was arrested early on Friday morning for being inside a building leased to the Horowhenua Rowing Club.
He escaped when he was taken back to secure his own home beside the lake.
The Court of Appeal has ruled the Lake Domain Board does not have the right to lease the building to the club.
Mr Taueki says the building is being unlawfully occupied, and the police are supporting the interests of squatters over the lakes’s legal owners.
