Waipareira jabs at medical centre costs
Social services trust Te Whanau o Waipareira intends to give the Auckland District Health Board a headache with its campaign against the high cost of after hours private emergency care in west Auckland.
Chief executive John Tamihere says the $92 cost for an after hours medical visit is outrageous.
He’s urging sick and injured westies to go straight to Waitakere Hospital’s Accident & Emergency Department, and demanding it operate 24 hours a day.
He says Waipareira is continually hearing from whanau who say they have to wait until morning for treatment because they can’t afford the high fees.
He says that could lead to people dying or getting sicker than they need to.
