Maori Party seeks Ikaroa Rawhiti candidate
The Maori Party will open nominations for its Ikaroa Rawhiti electorate on Monday.
And unlike in Tamaki Makaurau where it is waiting until May to pick a candidate, it aims to name the successful candidate being announced on April 13.
Electorate co-chair Bayden Barber says the party is looking for people who are passionate about its kaupapa, and dedicated to advancing Maori in the changing political landscape.
A wananga for potential candidates will be held this weekend at Te Poho o Rangiianui Marae in Napier, led by co-leader Tariana Turia.
In last year's Ikaroa Rawhiti by-election, the Maori Party candidate, Na Raihaniia, came third behind Labour's Meka Whaitiri and Te Hamua Nikora from Mana.
