New health model tried in Taumarunui
Waikato District Health Board is counting on a new integrated services model including greater involvement of iwi to improve healthcare in the Taumarunui area.
Taumarunui Community Kokiri Trust chief executive Christine Brears says the model will mean a greater focus on local health issues.
Already an asthma pathway has been developed to allow for more effective treatment for children, young people, and their families.
The governance group is developing an education calendar that will include learning opportunities for all local health services and a “welcome to Taumarunui” booklet for health professionals coming into the area.
The idea is that by integrating services, people are able to see the health professional that can best meet their needs as quickly and easily as possible.
