Ihumatao Marae in Mangere has received $12,250 from the Auckland Council to expand composting in its nursery and planned food forest.
It’s part of the $600,000 handed out in the latest grants from the council’s Waste Minimisation Innovation Fund and its Environmental Initiatives Fund.
It’s also giving $10,000 to Hillpark School for a world class edible garden, orchard, bush development and traditional Maori medicinal garden.
The council says it places a high priority on reducing waste to landfill.
