Taurima quits TVNZ over Labour hui

Labour Party business has again cost TVNZ Maori and Pacific unit manager Shane Taurima his job, this time permanently.
Mr Taurima stood down last year to seek selection as Labour’s Ikaroa Rawhiti by-election candidate, but was reinstated when he missed out to Meka Whaitiri.
He resigned yesterday after rival TV3 News reported he used TVNZ facilities to host a meeting of Labour's Tamaki Makaurau branch last year.
TVNZ staff email accounts were also used to organise a hui in January this year attended by Labour leader David Cunliffe, which Mr Taurima facilitated.
Head of news John Gillespie says it was a serious lapse of judgment and it is clear Mr Taurima can not continue in his role.
Other staff in the unit are being investigated about using their work emails for Labour Party business.
Mr Taurima is expected to seek the Labour nomination for Tamaki Makaurau, with nominations closing on February 28.
