Forgeries used for pokie grants

The former treasurer of a Maori sports organisation has pleaded guilty to 15 fraud and false accounting charges relating to pokie grants.
The Department of Internal Affairs says Henry Joseph Mackie, 52, of Whangarei, was the treasurer of Te Hiku O Te Ika Maori Rugby Council.
It says Mackie sought grants of $45,000 to found regional and inter-regional rugby tournaments in 2010 and 2011.
He was charged with using his scanner, computer and printer to alter genuine quotes and reproduce receipts, invoices and bank statements with intent to deceive.
Mackie will be sentenced in March.
