Log piles sign of economic failure
Labour’s Maori and regional development spokesperson says rather than promoting a new flag, John Key should fly the existing one at half mast in mourning for lost opportunities.
Shane Jones says there are deep issues in the New Zealand economy that the National Government seems uninterested in dealing with.
He says Labour is willing to tackle things such as child poverty, the housing crisis and the failure to create jobs.
"Jobs are not there. Industry has withered. It needs a more active role. For example the Government could have done a lot more to encourage further forestry investment, it could have taken a greater stick to inhibit wholesale export of logs. Marsden Point Port is just littered with raw logs. Those logs should be turned into timber and lumber rather than being sent to China and sent back here as chopsticks," Mr Jones says.
